Agricultural Economist

Salary: £37,000 | Location: London or Plymouth | Job Reference: SW01/10008

Are you looking for a position that is heavily focused around public policy?  This is an excellent opportunity to play a central role with key stakeholders in the UK and across the EU on public policy relating to agriculture and the food chain for a global high-end consultancy.

Based at either the London or Plymouth office, the successful candidate will work in a project-based environment providing policy-relevant research, analysis, evaluation and strategy services to the European Commission, the UK Government and other clients on food chain issues.  A wide range of issues are covered some of which are the economics of improving food safety, plant genetic resources and the control of animal diseases.

The duties of this role are broad and include:

  • Proposal writing and project management.
  • Leading a team of junior consultants and providing support and feedback.
  • Primary responsibility over project delivery and profitability.
  • Preparation of pre-qualification statements and other sales related material.
  • Provide input into post-tender reviews.
  • Developing client relationships and looking for commercial opportunities for follow up work with existing clients.

The ideal candidate should have an MSc and a degree, agricultural economics would be desirable, experience in public policy combined with research or consultancy developed by managing projects, proposals and small teams and an understanding of project finance.
