We're recruiting for a Laboratory Team Leader to join a cutting-edge bioenergy business at their flagship site in Girvan. You’ll lead a lab function that underpins performance across feedstock quality, product verification, environmental monitoring, and process optimisation  all while supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.

This is more than just compliance and routine testing  it’s a hands-on role where your leadership, curiosity, and technical knowledge will help shape a growing scientific function within a pioneering renewable energy business.

The Role
As Laboratory Team Leader, you'll:
  • Lead and mentor a small, capable lab team across testing, compliance and support
  • Oversee testing of feedstocks, digestate, CO2 quality, and long-sea outfall discharges
  • Manage daily schedules, testing priorities, and ensure efficient lab workflows
  • Provide key data and insights to operations, technical, and R&D teams
  • Ensure compliance with UKAS, ISO, UFAS/FEMAS, PAS110, and food-grade standards
  • Champion lab safety, risk management, and high HSE standards
  • Use project management tools to track productivity and support reporting to senior leadership
  • Contribute to experimental design and quality assurance initiatives across the business

Who We’re Looking For
You’re likely to have:
  • A degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related scientific discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a laboratory or industrial process environment
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a lab-based role
  • Strong knowledge of lab best practices, H&S procedures, and environmental compliance
  • Experience working in or supporting operations within waste, water, biogas or food sectors is highly desirable
  • Comfortable leading people, managing workstreams, and being accountable for results
You’ll need to be detail-oriented, organised, and collaborative  with a proactive, continuous improvement mindset. The team culture is hands-on, supportive, and open to new ideas.
