This site is part of a nationally recognised network of facilities turning food waste into green energy, heat, and biofertiliser providing a real alternative to landfill and helping to close the loop in food sustainability.

This is a great opportunity to step into a senior role with day-to-day responsibility for leading shift engineering operations at a cutting-edge site.

The Role

As Lead Shift Engineer, you’ll:

  • Deliver both reactive and planned maintenance across all process equipment
  • Drive performance improvements and minimise downtime using data and KPIs
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors, permits to work, and RAMS
  • Support site projects and ensure safe, compliant operations
  • Promote a proactive safety culture across the team and lead by example
  • Work closely with the SHEQ, operations, and management teams to deliver improvements

To thrive in this role, you’ll ideally have:
  • A recognised apprenticeship and minimum CGLI or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • A solid background in maintenance within a process, manufacturing, or energy environment
  • Prior experience in a shift lead, senior engineer, or team leader role
  • Strong understanding of health & safety procedures and permit-to-work systems

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
Experience in anaerobic digestion, waste, water treatment or power generation is highly desirable  but not essential if you bring the right mindset and mechanical leadership background.
Electrical experience or dual-skilled capability is a bonus, but not a requirement.

  • A permanent role in a fast-growing, sustainable industry
  • Competitive salary + benefits + overtime
  • High-spec plant with investment in engineering improvements
  • The chance to lead and shape a proactive engineering team
