The Opportunity
This is a varied and delivery-focused design role covering:
- 2D and 3D design of mechanical and piping systems (AutoCAD Plant 3D)
- Development of plant layouts, piping routes, equipment placement, and structural supports
- Interpretation and alignment with P&IDs, process specifications, and gas regulations
- Coordination with procurement to select and specify pumps, pipework, valves, and other components
- Preparation of RFQs, evaluation of bids, and support during installation and commissioning
- Managing design validations and ensuring installation aligns with approved drawings
- Contributing to continuous improvement and in-house design standards
- Mentoring junior engineers and maintaining technical documentation
You’ll play a key role in delivering safe, cost-effective, and well-optimised plant designs – working closely with project engineers, operations teams, and external partners.
What You’ll Need
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Strong understanding of piping design standards (e.g. EN13480 or ASME B31.3)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D and drawing production
- Experience designing or supporting delivery of process plants – ideally in AD, biogas, water, utilities, chemicals or heavy industry
- Familiarity with mechanical calculations, risk assessments, and equipment selection
- Ability to balance cost, operability, and maintainability in your designs
- Collaborative approach and excellent communication skills
- Mentoring or supervisory experience (or readiness to step up)
